Withdrawal or Time off
Westwood Gymnastics Academy REQUIRES A FULL MONTHS NOTICE BEFORE YOU INTEND TO WITHDRAW A STUDENT FROM CLASSES. Please call or stop by the office to give your months notice. You are responsible for the account balance at the time you give your drop notice. If a student has not attended class and has not paid by the 15th of the month, he/she will be dropped from classes and billed for that month.
Make-ups
Make up classes are NOT allowed for the Dance Program. Free trials will be discontinued after December 13th, 2010, with the exception of Dancing Tots and Drill Team Prep. Although the curriculum is the same throughout our dance program, each class will differ in dance combinations. It is imperative that students attend their regular class on a consistent basis (no exceptions).
Holidays
The gym is closed on Labor Day, Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas Week, New Year’s Day, Good Friday through Easter, Memorial Day, and July 4th. FULL TUITION IS DUE EVERY MONTH. We do not pro-rate tuition for the holidays.
Dance Attire
Please make sure your child has all of the necessary and appropriate dance clothing and shoes when they arrive to class. Westwood provides our unique dancewear line (designed by Marie Arick) for our students’. Tights and all dance shoes may be purchased at Costumes & Dancewear at 515 Mason Rd (Merrymount). Hair should always be securely pulled back and away from the face. Baggy clothing, hanging jewelry or any objects on the body that inhibit movement will not be allowed while dancing.
Placement:
Placement is determined by age, experience and individual progression. All students are placed in a class primarily by age. The Westwood Dance Staff will evaluate each student and should a student need to be moved back a level or up a level, we will recommend the appropriate class for your child.
Tardiness
It is imperative that students are on time to their dance class so that they do not miss any material and get behind. All classes begin with warming up the body; failure to warm up properly may result in injury. Therefore, a student who is more than 10 minutes late to class will not be allowed to dance for that day and may be asked to observe the class instead.
Code of Conduct (Dance Etiquette)
Snacks, drinks, gum or eating candy are NOT allowed in the dance studios. Bottled water is allowed and encouraged to be brought to class. Students should not enter the dance room until their teacher has invited them in.
Why Performing is Important
Performing is a natural culmination of dance study. Taking the stage helps to build self confidence and develops positive sportsmanship. Giving the students the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience cultivates their understanding of what it takes to become a disciplined dancer. It also allows parents, family and friends to witness all of the hard work and progression the dancers have made.
Recital:
Recitals will be held every other year. We are glad to say that this year is a recital year. Your dancers will have the opportunity to perform on a full stage for an audience and show off everything they have learned this year! It will be held at the end of May 2011.
